Umi Vaughan is an artist and experimental ethnographer who explores dance,
creates photographs and performances, and writes about African Diaspora culture. A doctoral candidate in anthropology
at the University of Michigan he studies popular music and performance in Cuba in relation to social transformation.

Artist Statement:
If it is true that the eyes are the windows to the soul, then when gazes
meet and hold one another the result is sublime and totally human. These photographs move me because they capture the embrace
of the eyes and tell about my moment in Cuba linda...where we spoke with our eyes.
